Pocky Biscuit Sticks
The iconic Japanese snack in a stick! Invented in 1966, the name for these sweet and crispy biscuit sticks comes from the Japanese word pokkin, onomatopoeia for the sound of a twig snapping.
As for why the candy coating only goes down partway, that's to keep your fingers clean. When Pocky was first developed, the sticks were completely covered with chocolate. However, the creators quickly realized snackers would have a mess on their hands. Hence, the bare bottom half.
